Bearing an outstanding display of large glossy leaves, this invaluable plant is happy in dry shade and tolerates root competition, making it a perfect jungle or woodland backdrop with enough architectural potential to form a centrepiece. It can be pruned hard to keep it compact or lower foliage removed to evoke a miniature tree-like form. Large creamy white flowers are produced in late summer followed by black berries. Although its new growth can sometimes be frosted in late winter it is a hardy and easy to grow plant in all but the wettest soils.
Height and spread after 10 – 15 years 3m x 2.5m.
