Family Moraceae
Originating from the Mediterranean.
Reputedly the sweetest variety of fig we can grow in the UK, it produces a reliable crop of white/yellow fruit with red flesh. When the fruits are ripe they drip syrupy juice from the bottom of the fig, meaning it’s time to crop them.
The leaves are large but not deeply lobed and clothe the plant densely. If the fruit crop is your main reason for planting, the removal of some foliage around the fruit will help them to ripen in full sun. Pruning to form a large standard or espalier is advisable before it makes a large specimen, requiring ladders to crop and prune. Alternatively, it is suited to training on a large south-facing wall.
Vigorous and hardy, this variety is tolerant of poor and alkaline soil, but thriving with summer watering and feeding.
Height and spread after 10- 15 years if not pruned 6m x 4m.
