Figs are well known for their fruit, but this variety – rarely offered in the UK, has some special qualities. It has one of the most deeply lobed leaves of all figs and makes a highly decorative foliage plant. The large hand-like leaves have long finger-like lobes with irregularly wavy edges, unique amongst figs, and are more sparsely borne than other varieties, making an open and architecturally branched shrub rather than a tree.

Its enormous figs look almost out of proportion with the size of its shrubby form and are exceptionally sweet, with drops of sugary honey flowing from the eye when ripe.  The green/yellow fruits can be striped or plain green during their development and have a dense light red flesh inside.

Ideal for small gardens and even growing in pots. Its small early crop of figs can be removed if desired during a hot spring, to promote a later season fruiting that will be more likely to ripen at a large size. Tolerant of poor, alkaline soil and drought, but thriving with regular watering in summer.
