Family Moraceae
Originating from Mediterranean
Deciduous tree or large shrub, with smooth white bark. Its fragrant leaves are 12-25cm long and 10-18cm across, and deeply lobed with three or five lobes.
The edible fruit is 3-5 cm long, with green skin, sometimes ripening towards purple or brown. Ficus carica has milky sap (laticifer).
Grow against a south-facing wall in poor soil for a really good crop of fruit.
Fertile soil will result in luxuriant foliage with fewer fruits – take your pick.
