Family Griseliniaceae
Originating from New Zealand and South America
A striking evergreen, rounded shrub with thick, glossy, oval leaves, irregularly variegated in golden, cream and grey variegation, and held on green/yellow stalks and stems. Usually grown as a hedge, it does indeed make a most attractive windbreak or backdrop to a border, providing an excellent foil for darker leaved plants, and it is very salt and wind tolerant making it a good choice for coastal gardens. With a little pruning, Griselinia can be transformed into a superb little architectural, specimen evergreen tree. Hardy in all but the coldest regions of the UK.
Grow in light, fertile soil in sun.
Height and spread after 3 – 4 years 1.5m x 1.5mm
Mature height and spread after 10 – 12 years if not pruned 4m x 4m
