Family Zingiberaceae
Originating from Himalayas

Hedychium densiflorum, 3L plants. Outlandishly zesty and powerful, bold and upright, with a lush architectural presence. Strong fleshy stems bear slender leaves, appearing in early summer as fat red flushed spikes, they reach their ultimate height in late summer as the large flower buds begin to form, developing into strikingly intense orange slender spikes bearing many densely packed individual flowers that contribute an exquisitely tropical scent to the garden, followed by exotic red fruit.

One of the hardier gingers, it is easy to grow in any rich soil in full sun or part shade. Rhizomes can be covered with straw in colder locations.

Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 2m x 1m.
