A large evergreen shrub or small tree producing a mass of scented cherry-like blossom in July and August, at that time of year when few other shrubs are putting on a good floral display. Will tolerate alkaline soils – even very chalky.
Grow in well-drained neutral to alkaline soil in a sheltered position. Suitable for city and coastal gardens. Mulch roots in winter.
