Originating from China, Russia and Japan

Deciduous upright stems bearing purple, almost black, lustrous, succulent leaves, topped by heads of dark pink star-shaped flowers in late summer. These are rich in nectar for bees and butterflies and continue to look attractive in winter when they have gone to seed. A tough, hardy, drought-resistant plant.
Grow in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun. The soil shouldn’t be too rich, and improve drainage by adding grit to the planting hole if necessary.
