Description

Family Myrtaceae
Originating from Australia and New Zealand

Luxurious, dark, velvety and profuse, upright and airy, this Tea Tree has possibly the most exquisite shade of burgundy/magenta flowers of all shrubs. Each tiny bloom is crowded with delicate petals surrounding the darkest purple/black dome shaped ovary, which will harden to become the fruit. The willowy branches form an upright yet lax shrub and are clad in small silver/green rosemary-like evergreen leaves which take on purple hues in colder weather. All pollinators go crazy for the nectar, the source of Manuka honey. Easy to grow in any but the heaviest wet soil in full sun.

Height and spread after 5 – 10 years 2.5m x 2.5m.
