Family Proteaceae
Originating from South Africa
A rare evergreen shrub with dark green up-swept older leaves that change colour through the year. Younger leaves near the tips of the branches change colour through the season from creamy white to green, then purple and finally dusky red. Selected stems can be pruned to their base with the many new shoots producing a bushier plant.
Grown as an open, airy plant or a denser shrub the Conebush makes a stunning addition to Mediterranean or exotic style gardens, and its mature size means that it can be designed into planting compositions without fear of it over-growing other plants.
Grow in well-drained poor acid to neutral soil in full sun.
Height and spread after 2 – 3 years 1m x 1m
Semi mature height and spread after 7 – 8 years if not pruned 1.5m x 1.5m
