Description

Family Polygonaceae
Originating from New Zealand.

A crazily quirky plant with a big personality. This charming species has branches that grow in an angular, zigzag pattern. The slender stems bear delightful tiny, mid green, heart-shaped deciduous leaves, and creamy white flowers in early summer, as tiny as the leaves, followed by semi-opaque gel encased fruits, bearing at their centre a tiny black seed. It will form a wide-spreading soft mound shape but responds well to trimming, forming any shape.

Easy to grow in any soil type and tolerant of poor, dry soil in coastal exposure in full sun or part shade.

Height and spread after 10 – 15 years 2.5m x 2.5m
