Family polygonaceae
Originating from New Zealand
A vigorous, virtually evergreen shrub or twining climber, forming a dense mass of wiry stems and tiny, glossy green leaves. These are variable in shape and a plant can play host to rounded, heart, and fiddle-shaped leaves at the same time. It will climb up and over posts and trellis with little support, or scramble along the ground making excellent weed suppressing ground cover. It can be useful for smothering old, ugly trees or stumps and is superb for growing on topiary frames. Very salt tolerant.
