Family Pinaceae
Originating from South and East U.S
The silver needles are nearly white when they first emerge. They are borne on branches that have an irregular symmetry, giving the plant a tiered and ancient look. It will form a dense conical shape for many years, although selected new growth at its branch tips can be pinched out making a ‘life-size bonsai’ as a potted patio plant in a pot, or as a centerpiece planted in the ground. Rarely seen in the UK, this plant is from artisan Dutch growers and is probably 10 – 12 years old already. Hardy and easy to grow, tolerating a wide range of soil conditions, it does best in full sun in a neutral to acid soil.
Height and spread after 5 – 6 years 2m x 1m
Mature height and spread after 15 years if not pruned 4m x 1.5m
