Family Pinaceae
Originating from California USA
An extremely fast growing pine, conical in shape when young, developing a spreading canopy when mature with very dark brown/grey fissured bark. The fasted growing and lushest green leaved of any pine, radiata makes a superb specimen tree for a large garden but is also easy to cloud prune (relatively speaking) and can also be twisted, distorted and snipped into bonsai. Because of its salt resistance and astonishing rate of growth Pinus radiata is prized as a shelterbelt tree in coastal gardens.
Grow in any reasonable soil in sun/part shade.
Height and spread after 3 – 4 years 3.5m x 3m
Semi mature height and spread after 10 – 12 years if not pruned 8m x 5m
Potential mature size after 30 – 40 years 18m x 8m
