Family Rosaceae
Originating from Japan
In the cold and barren winter months the sight of this tree is most welcome. Its flowering begins after the small oval leaves have created their own autumnal display by turning shades of red and yellow. Flowering sporadically at almost anytime throughout the winter, the main display is usually in February or March, when the crown can become a billowing mass of pink tinted blossom.
An extremely hardy and easy to grow species succeeding in all soils, it develops a denser crown and flowers better in full sun.
Height and spread after 4 – 5 years 2m x 1.5m.
Semi mature height and spread after 10 – 12 years if not pruned 3.5m x 3m
Potential mature height and spread after 20 years plus 5m x 4m
