Family Rosaceae
Originating from China
One of the best Rowans for garden use, it forms an elegant tree densely clothed in lush feather shaped leaves up to 20cm long. In spring it produces loose sprays of white flowers that stand out well against the dark green foliage, followed by creamy white berries that turn buttery yellow and then a deeper amber colour, just as the foliage starts to take on range of colours from yellow to copper, intense red and purple tints, forming a dazzling display in combination with the berries.
This is an extremely hardy and easy to grow species succeeding in all soils, in an exposed or sheltered position. It develops a denser crown and flowers better in full sun.
