Family Apocynaceae
Originating from China, Korea and Japan
Evergreen, twining climber with glossy, leathery dark green leaves turning a rich red in autumn. Produces pure white, exquisitely scented, pinwheel shaped flowers in summer.
Trachelospermum jasminoides isn’t a rampant climber and is therefore suitable for a small conservatory. You could even try it outdoors as ground cover, where it will create a dense, scented, and weed-suppressing carpet.
Grow in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or shade. It will even tolerate deep shade but may produce less flowers. In very cold areas it is advisable to grow against a warm, sunny wall.
Height and spread after 3 – 4 years 2.5m x 1.5m
Semi mature height after 7 – 8 years if not pruned 4m x 4m
Potential height after 15 – 20 years, if support is available 6 – 8m x 6m
