- Lush and abundant exotic-looking evergreen leaves.
- Unique bunches of filamentous green flowers, and striking star-shaped seeds.
- Easy to grow in woodland shelter.
A rare and unusual plant, essential in exotic woodland and jungle-style gardens. It has a continual cycle of display from spring to autumn, commencing with the emergence of large pointed buds covered in thick pink scales which open in to reveal the fresh new leaves. Later it produces green flowers, followed by green/pink-flushed fruits which mature into clusters of unique star-shaped seed pods.
The stunning display of fresh foliage in spring, appearing in fat, scaled buds at the tips of the branches, is a sight to behold. The new leaves emerge in an intense pink color with a brighter cerise pink margin before mellowing to bronze and maturing into a thick leathery form with a matte yellow/green color. The lush and glossy foliage is borne on a tier-shaped branching structure, forming a wide-spreading small tree with an elegant poise.
Easy to grow in any but thin chalky soil, it benefits from some woodland shelter in full sun or part shade.
Height and spread after 10 – 20- years 4m x 3m.
