Dainty and very classy with finely detailed glossy, dusky purple leaves. This beautiful small deciduous shrub has a striking presence, with its densely borne foliage and dark colour, yet with a soft texture, due to its feather-shaped leaves and finely serrated tiny leaflets. They are strongly aromatic, as is its bark and small black seeds, revealed after the red berries split in autumn, preceded by small yellow sprays of flowers in summer. The foliage has a strong yellow colour in late autumn, falling to reveal its spiny branches.
Easy to grow in any soil in full sun.
Height and spread after 5 – 10 years 2m x 2m
