Musa sikkimensis

(Darjeeling Banana, Hooker’s Banana)
Award of Garden Merit
Family Musaceae
Originating from Sikkim Bangladesh

Reliably hardy banana with protection. From the cool regions of north-east India it produces wonderful glossy green leaves that are tougher than those of M. basjoo and thus do not suffer so much from wind damage. The leaves have a reddish midrib above and are often splashed and streaked reddish-brown and this is so pronounced in some plants as to give them a dramatic camouflage effect.
Grow in very fertile, moisture retentive, well-drained soil in full sun or dappled shade.
