Originating from China
A very cold hardy, clump-forming bamboo with light green culms and pink sheaths when young. One of the earliest bamboos to produce new shoots in spring, it produces them in abundance and plants bulk up very rapidly. In very rich soil the leaves are dark green but in poorer soils and in sunny aspect they are a pleasing paler green.
Grow in moist but well-drained soil in part shade.
