A strong robust ginger, one of the hardiest and earliest to flower. Leathery, lance-shaped leaves, larger than the species, with thicker stems and larger flowers. These flowers are erect to slightly lax racemes of soft orange petals with darker orange racemes and have a delicious evening scent. Rapidly makes dense clumps in the ground.
It may be left in the ground in sheltered gardens, with a thick, protective mulch in winter.
Grow in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun/part shade.
