Family Proteaceae
Originating from South Africa

An evergreen shrub with dark green up-swept older leaves which become progressively more burgundy red further up the branches, where the youngest leaves at the tips of the branches are a maroon red (especially when backlit by the sun) and are as good as a floral display. The terminal leaves, which have a blunt and rounded tip, gather in and hide the actual flower at the end of each branch which is an unspectacular woody cone structure. Easy to grow in well-drained poor acid to neutral soil in full sun. Do not use fertilizer as it is toxic to this family of plants.

Height and spread after 2 – 3 years 1m x 1m
Semi mature height and spread after 4 – 5 years if not clipped or pruned 2m x 3m
