Family Pinaceae
Originating from Central Europe
Dark and abundant foliage is held densely on an upright branching habit, forming a striking architectural shape. The spring flush of tan coloured new growth’s ‘candles’ contrast well with the dusky foliage, followed by the needles emerging bright green before darkening, adding just 8 – 10cm of growth a year. Its columnar shape means it can make a striking accent plant as a single specimen in a pot, ideal on a patio, or as a single specimen in the ground. Rarely seen in the UK, this plant is from artisan Dutch growers, and is probably 10 – 12 years old already. A hardy and easy to grow species thriving in a wide range of soils in full sun.
