Family Berberidaceae
Originating from China and Japan.
Airy, loose, and elegant, with charmingly pointed leaves borne in feather-like sprays on upright bamboo-like stems, this evergreen species has a serene quality, worthy of its Japanese common name ‘Heavenly Bamboo’. This wonderful species is perfect for smaller gardens and planting in pots, having a small shrub-like form, an upright habit, and beautiful spikes of creamy white flowers, borne in summer and followed by red berries. The new foliage is red-flushed with purple, turning dark, glossy green, before taking on red tints again in winter. Easy to grow in any soil in full sun or light shade.
Height and spread after 5 – 10 years 1.5m x 1.5m
