Dark and brooding, dense and fleshy, this chic black hybrid begs to form a monochrome striking display, planted with a pale or white top dressing of grit. Its tightly packed leaves make a compact freely pupping clump (producing new rosettes), useful for planting in containers with taller succulents like Aeoniums. Responding well to strong light, it achieves its darkest black, flushed with deep red and green in full sun, on patios for the summer, or in a south facing area of conservatories, house windows sills and greenhouses.
