Family Balsaminaceae
Originating from Tropical Africa
An exotic-looking lush, evergreen, floriferous, large shrub with abundant, dark green foliage. The handsome leaves have a satin-looking sheen and are arranged in whorls (a circular flush) around the tips of the branches, looking most rhododendron-like, each with a striking paler green midrib. They make a perfect foil for an all-summer-long flowering display of white flowers that emerge flushed pink, borne at the tips of the branches. Ideal for a patio during the summer in a frost-free conservatory.
Easy to grow in most potting composts in full sun or part shade, and responding well to hard pruning.
Height and spread after 5 – 10 years if not pruned 1.5m x 1.5m.
