Family Pinaceae
Originating from Japan
The slightly twisted and curved needles of this dwarf pine are held in groups of five and appear to be turquoise, but in fact are green, blue and silver in different parts of the needle. Masses of small pink/red male flowers appear in spring, followed by tan-coloured female cones. Ideal for small gardens or elevated planting positions where its many detailed attributes can be seen close up. Rarely seen in the UK, this slow growing form of the Japanese White Pine is from artisan Dutch growers, and is probably 10 – 12 years old already. This is a hardy and easy to grow species thriving in a wide range of soils in full sun.
