Family Dryopteridaceae
Originating from W. North America and Canada.
Smooth and glossy leaflets are held rigidly in a flat plane on each side of the rachis (central stem), making this a very distinctive-looking fern. The abundant and highly organised arrangement of the leaflets gives this species a striking architectural quality, and the sheer number of evergreen fronds produced by one crown gives it a lush and jungly character. A vigorous and reliable grower, it reaches its full potential height in damp, dappled shade, where it may form slowly spreading colonies, but will grow strongly in sun and exposure to wind. Easy to grow in any soil and in pots.
Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 1.5m x 1.5m.
