(Japanese Lace Fern, Tassel Fern), AGM
Family Dryopteridaceae, Originating from Japan, S Korea.
One of Urban Jungle’s top recommended ferns, no woodland or jungle garden should be without it. It is one of the most evergreen ferns (although all species lose their frond by the end of winter), forming neat and compact shuttlecocks of glossy, bright yellowy green vigorously growing leaves covered in soft looking light tan scales that look like a fuzzy, hairy covering to the rachis (leaf stem) and undersides of the leaves. This soft fuzziness is most pronounced on the young fronds which have pendulous tips, hanging like tassels. Easy to grow in shade or part shade.
Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 70cm x 70cm.
