Family Boraginaceae
Originating from Europe, Asia
Deep inky blue, floriferous, dark and vigorous, this lush ground covering deciduous perennial brings a rare colour to shady woodland planting schemes. Its dark green, elegantly pointed slender leaves are borne densely on hairy stems, forming slowly spreading clumps that are adorned with clusters of dusky purple, hairy buds which open to reveal rich dark blue tightly furled petals. They mature to a beautifully intense royal blue, over a long period in spring, developing lilac tints as they age. Easy to grow in all but heavy wet soil in full to part shade.
Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 50cm x 50cm.
