Family Griseliniaceae
Originating from New Zealand and South America
A fast growing, evergreen, upright shrub or small tree with leathery, oval leaves, which are a bright apple green, thick, almost succulent looking, held on distinctive pale orange/brown stalks and stems. Usually grown as a hedge, it does indeed make a most attractive windbreak or backdrop to a border, providing an excellent foil for darker leaved plants, and is very salt and wind tolerant making it a good choice for coastal gardens. With a little pruning, Griselinia can be transformed into a superb little architectural, specimen evergreen tree. Hardy in all but the coldest regions of the UK.
Grow in light, fertile soil in sun.
Height and spread after 3 – 4 years?? 2m x 2m
Mature height and spread after 10 – 12 years if not pruned 10m x 10m
