Family Phytolaccaceae
Originating from Asia.
Big, bold and brassy, extravagant and ostentatiously abundant. If you want a standout exotic statement of a plant, look no further; the plentiful large, herbaceous foliage is arrayed with fat, loud bright pink flower spikes in summer, followed by impressive spikes of glossy black fruits borne on intensely cerise stems, a colour combination that wouldn’t look out of place in a rainforest. Making a large rounded shrub of stout, almost woody stems, its best given space where its outrageous display can be appreciated close-up, and from a distance. Easy to grow in any soil in sun or part shade.
Height and spread after 2 – 5 years 2m x 2m.
