Family Pinaceae
Originating from Bosnia-Herzegovina.
An outstandingly compact pine of great character. Its needles are upswept and tightly arranged along the upright branches, forming a mound shape that, after many years, may become conical, although with light pruning it may grow in moss-like hummocks. The original 3m tall plant was found in the wild growing on a mountainside and was estimated to be 500 years old. It makes an excellent pot plant on a patio. Rarely seen in the UK, this plant is from artisan Dutch growers and is probably 8 – 10 years old.
Succeeds best of all in neutral to alkaline sandy loam in full sun, but is tolerant of most soil conditions.
Height and spread after 10- 15 years 20cm x 20cm
Mature height and spread after 20 – 30 years + if not pruned 40cm x 40cm.
