Masses of small glossy evergreen leaves densely clothe the vigorously growing slender stems of this twining climber, which can grow over any supporting structure or even along the ground, forming a dense ground cover. If left unsupported, its stems will simply scramble along the ground and can be easily trimmed to encourage them to grow in the desired spot, eventually creating a dense bushy carpet. It is equally happy to cascade over the wall of a raised bed or planter.
In winter, the multitude of small leaves turns a deep blood-red color, adding yet another dimension to its seasonal display. Such an adaptable and ornamental species is indispensable in creating a garden that engages all the senses, fulfilling various roles in planting compositions, both vertically and horizontally.
With smaller leaves than the more common T. jasminoides, this species appears to be a little faster growing and will soon develop a framework of stems that can wrap around themselves, a pergola, trellis, or tree, allowing the powerful scent of the star-shaped flowers to waft far from the plant. The delightful rich, clear rose pink flowers appear over a long season from mid-summer to early autumn in great profusion.
Easy to grow in any soil in part shade or full sun. Height and spread after 5-10 years 6m x 6m.
