Supercool yet hot, dark and sophisticated, intense and smouldering, ‘Roxy’ seems to capture the heat of the sweltering Mexican midday sun with its near black foliage and brilliantly coloured blooms. The large rounded petals have an almost velvet look which adds richness to their deep magenta colour, and surround a cluster of disc florets that open in series to reveal their golden pollen covered tips, like a firework at the centre of the flower. Hardy enough to plant out in southern and coastal gardens, its tubers should be covered with straw in colder areas, or lifted for the winter. Easy to grow in all but the heaviest wet soil in full sun.
