Family Proteaceae
Originating from Australia
Dark and glossy, silvery and hairy, smouldering and fiery. This unique spreading evergreen shrub has an understated, yet stunning range of characteristics. Its shoots, and the undersides of its glossy green leaves are covered in fine silvery hairs, giving it a rugged look and creating a detailed, graceful framework for the elegantly formed flowers. Bronzy when emerging as tightly curled buds, they open to form orangey red pendants of filamentous stamens. Easy to grow in a prostrate form or as a low rounded shrub in well drained, poor soil in full sun. Only low phosphorus fertiliser, if any, should be used.
Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 1m x 2m.
