Originating from Japan. Impossibly exotic orchid-like blooms, handsome deeply veined foliage, borne on elegantly upright stems make this species a must have for woodland and oriental gardens in particular. The widely flared white petals have leopard-like, intensely deep burgundy spots. They surround a flamboyant pedestal-like structure bearing the beautifully, also spotted complex stamens. The perennial stems bear many flowers and buds, producing a long lasting display in summer and autumn of a rare beauty. Easy to grow in woodland dappled shade in light soil and lighter soil.
