A unique and dramatic bulbous perennial with fleshy leaves that emerge in an almost black shade of dusky purple, becoming lighter red/purple as the season progresses. The large flower spike soon emerges, up to 80cm tall, living up to its common name of ‘Pineapple Lily’, bearing many white individual star-shaped flowers flushed with burgundy pink petals arranged around bright green stamens, borne on a stout burgundy stem which is topped by a tuft of leaf-like bracts-stunning!
Easy to grow in all but shallow chalky, poor soil, in full sun.
Height and spread after 2 – 3 years 50cm x 40cm.
