Our majestic native species of pine. Unmistakable silvery needles and orange/tan coloured branches make this hardy and reliable species a must for any size of garden. It is easily pruned to form a large shrub, evoking an ancient tree in miniature, with minimal annual, or even bi annual pruning, realising Its potential to form an architectural centrepiece, a practice known as Niwaki in Japan. Left to grow naturally it will form a slender conical specimen when young, its crown spreading to form an elegant layered dome shape in maturity, ideal for windbreaks and screening. Easy to grow in any soil in full sun or part shade.
Height and spread after 20 – 50 years 12m x 8m.
